• Appearance •
The Infiltrator appears to be a carbon-copy of one of your teammates. It wears the same diving suit, and will mimic the face and hat of either a deceased player or the most isolated player on the map. It always carries an old flashlight.
• Behavior •
Once spawned, Infiltrator will assume the appearance of the most suitable player to mimic, and will patrol the map while consistently tracking the location of all players within the map, meaning it always knows where all players are. While patrolling, Infiltrator will always sprint and never walk. As soon as a player seperates from the other players, it will diretly pathfind towards that player, regardless of how far away the Infiltrator is to that player. Once it reaches its isolated target, the Infiltrator will start to observe the player and will mimic typical player behavior while doing so, such as jumping, looking around and even taunting different emotes such as the Dance 101 emote, even if the player it is mimicking doesn't have that emote. It will also steadily follow the player, should they attempt to leave. After a while of following the player, the Infiltrator will first check for other players. If the target is alone, the Infiltrator will wait for the target to turn away from it. If the player continuously stares at the Infiltrator without looking away, it will slowly walk off, mimicking a player searching for something, and return again later. However, if the player looks away during its observation phase, the Infiltrator's face and flashlight will blink red, its expression will shift to a ">:(", and it will immediately begin chasing them. This chase sequence can also be triggered if a player loses line of sight towards the Infiltrator while it waits for one to turn away by walking behind a wall or an obstacle. When a player is caught by the Infiltrator, it looks like it is hugging them using the Hugger medical item, when in reality it is slowly draining their health. Players caught by an Infiltrator cannot break free from it unless the Infiltrator is stunned by a Shock Stick from another team mate.
The Infiltrator will never directly walk towards a group of players, but can accidentally walk into one while patrolling. In that case, the Infiltrator will turn towards the group and mimic player behavior like normal, even if the player it is mimicking is present. However, it will not initiate a chase, and will retreat by sprinting away if two or more players look at it for some time. After retreating for some time, Infiltrator will resume looking for isolated players.
• Counters •
To avoid the Infiltrator, try to stay in a group of at least 2 players, and don't get too far from your teammates. If you see a deceased player walking around, avoid this copy at all costs. It is possible to distinguish Infiltrators from true players: they are unable to talk, so calling out to them with your voice to confirm if they are real is the most effective strategy. They also always carry an Old Flashlight, and never use other items with their hands.
Occasionally during its observation phase, Infiltrators face will briefly flicker red for a split-second, making it easier to detect.
Caution is advised if an Infiltrator follows an isolated player, as normally transparent obstacles like the cage bars are still treated as walls and will consequently also trigger chase, even if the Infiltrator was in sight through the bars.
The Infiltrator is vulnerable to the Shock Stick, so use one if it gets too close. Goo Balls can also be used.
